Chapter 265: Planning
Chapter 265: Planning
( This Chapter was mistakenly swapped with the one ahead of it )
The weight of Nulissa’s final words lingered in the office long after she finished speaking.
"Absolutely."
The certainty in her tone settled into the space between them, quiet but undeniable.
Jax didn’t respond immediately.
Instead, his golden eyes held hers, steady and thoughtful, as he processed everything she had laid out.
It was a solid strategy, and it perfectly aligned with how he preferred to operate when things truly mattered.
A slow smirk returned to his lips, "...Then I’ll make sure I stay ahead of her."
Nulissa looked at him for a moment longer, "...I know you will."
The tension eased again after that, the sharper edge of strategy fading as the conversation reached its natural end.
Nulissa shifted slightly on his lap, her posture softening once more, the earlier intensity giving way to something warmer, more familiar.
"...Looks like you already have your next moves lined up," she murmured.
Jax chuckled quietly.
"Always do."
Her lips curved faintly.
"...Of course you do."
There was a brief pause.
Then Jax moved.
His hand slid a little higher along her waist as he leaned in, closing the remaining distance between them. This time, the kiss wasn’t just a greeting or a fleeting connection.
It was slower and more intimate.
Nulissa’s eyes fluttered closed as she leaned into it without hesitation, one hand rising from his shoulder to rest lightly against his jaw, holding him there for just a moment longer than before.
When they finally pulled apart, her crimson eyes met his again, softer now.
"...Don’t disappear on me again for too long," she said quietly.
Jax smirked faintly.
"No promises."
She huffed lightly at that, though the faint smile never left her lips.
"...Then at least give me a warning next time."
Jax’s gaze held hers for a second longer before he nodded slightly.
"Meet me later today."
Her eyebrow lifted.
"Oh?"
"Things are about to move," he said simply. "I’ll want you there."
Nulissa didn’t hesitate.
"...I will be."
With that, she rose smoothly from his lap, her movements as composed and graceful as ever. The softness in her expression remained, but her posture had already shifted back into that of a Clan Leader, focused, controlled, ready.
Jax watched her for a moment as she stepped back.
"...Try not to miss me too much," he added.
Her lips curved one last time.
"...Too late for that."
The shadows near the wall stirred once more, curling around her form before swallowing her entirely.
And just like that, she was gone, leaving just the quiet office space once more.
Jax exhaled slowly, rolling his shoulders once as he stood.
"...Alright."
His mind had already shifted as he was thinking about his next steps.
Without wasting another second, space folded around him, and the next moment, he was gone.
He reappeared within the Demon King Palace, the transition seamless as ever.
The corridors greeted him again, servants and attendants moving quickly through their duties, pausing only briefly to bow as he passed.
"Your Majesty."
Jax gave a small nod, not slowing.
His destination was clear.
Alexi and Natasha’s chambers.
The doors opened at his approach, and he stepped inside without hesitation.
The room was calm.
Soft light filtered through the curtains, illuminating the space in warm tones. The atmosphere here was noticeably more relaxed compared to the structured intensity of the rest of the palace.
And there they were.
Alexi lay comfortably across the bed, her red hair spread slightly across the pillow, her body relaxed as she idly traced patterns along the sheets.
Natasha, on the other hand, was half-reclined beside her, one arm behind her head, her sharp eyes flicking lazily toward the door the moment it opened.
"...Took you long enough," Natasha muttered.
But there was no real bite behind it.
Alexi’s reaction was immediate.
"Jax!"
She sat up almost instantly, her expression lighting up as she slipped off the bed and crossed the room without hesitation.
Jax barely had time to react before she reached him.
Her arms wrapped around him tightly, pressing into him without restraint.
"I missed you," she said, her voice softer now.
Jax chuckled, one arm naturally wrapping around her waist.
"Yeah, I noticed that you always miss me," Jax said.
Natasha rose more slowly, though the faint smirk on her lips gave her away as she approached.
"Don’t let her have all the attention," she added dryly.
Jax glanced at her.
"Wouldn’t dream of it."
Alexi pulled back just slightly, and before she could say anything else, Jax leaned down and pressed a brief kiss to her lips.
She froze for half a second, then melted into it, her hands tightening slightly against him.
When he pulled back, her cheeks were faintly flushed, her eyes bright.
"...You’ve been gone too long," she murmured.
Jax smirked.
"Seems to be a common complaint today."
Natasha stepped in next, far less hesitant. Her hand caught his collar lightly, pulling him down just enough to meet her halfway as she kissed him, short, confident, and deliberate.
When she pulled back, her gaze locked onto his.
"...Don’t get used to that," she said.
Jax chuckled.
"Noted."
The three of them settled soon after, Alexi naturally pulling him toward the bed while Natasha leaned back against the side, watching with quiet amusement.
But it didn’t take long for the mood to shift.
Jax’s expression sharpened slightly.
"We need to talk."
Natasha’s eyes narrowed just a fraction.
"...Heroes?"
Jax nodded.
Alexi straightened slightly, her earlier warmth still there—but now layered with focus.
"What’s the plan?" she asked.
Jax glanced between the two of them.
"I want to break them."
Natasha’s smirk returned immediately.
"...About time."
Alexi tilted her head slightly.
"How?"
Jax leaned back slightly, arms resting casually as he spoke.
"One by one. Mentally first."
Natasha let out a quiet hum.
"...Destabilization."
"Exactly."
There was a brief pause.
Then Natasha spoke again, her tone sharper now.
"...Then we should use us."
Jax raised an eyebrow.
"Oh?"
She gestured lightly between herself and Alexi.
"You already took two of us away from them," she said. "Converted us to your side,"
Alexi nodded slowly as she understood where Natasha was going, "Trust me, seeing Natasha with you back then shook everyone to their cores. Using us together will be a dagger to their hearts,"
Jax’s interest deepened as he nodded.
Natasha leaned forward slightly, her gaze focused as she continued, "Killian’s ego is built on control," she said, "The power he was given by the Goddess, the worship of everyone around him, and being surrounded by all of us female heroes, the idea the world revolves around him fuels his ego,"
A faint pause.
"So we rip that away."
Alexi’s eyes lit slightly.
"...We confront them."
Natasha nodded.
"Exactly."
Her tone sharpened further.
"We show up on your side."
Jax’s smirk returned.
"...That’ll hit hard."
"Not just hard," Natasha continued. "It’ll break the illusion."
Alexi leaned closer now, clearly invested.
"They’ll start questioning everything," she added. "The Church. The Holy Kingdom. Even their own roles."
Natasha nodded.
"And once that doubt sets in..."
Jax finished it again.
"They fall apart."
